Companion July 27, 1854 Article

The July 27 Hamilton Intelligencer newspaper page contains two separate articles about the same episode. This companion article adds claimant identity language and additional detail about Cincinnati, the dray, jail, courthouse crowd, and aftermath.

What this companion article adds

The project preserves this as a distinct article on the same July 27 newspaper page rather than as a separate issue or duplicate of the principal “Fugitive Slave Case” article. It includes a woman rendered as “Jenny Acres,” Officer Bruen, movement through the Cincinnati railroad/depot system, a dray, the Hamilton jail, the courthouse crowd, Judge Wilkins's discharge of the man, and discussion of a possible false-imprisonment action.

Identity caution: Jane B. Acra is now the project’s strongest and probable working identification for the woman rendered as “Jenny Acres.” The identification is supported by Boone County and newly located Orange County family evidence, but no surviving document yet makes the identification explicit.

The project continues to work toward a cleaner standalone crop/transcription of the companion article itself. The key source distinction is: one July 27 issue, one newspaper page, two separate articles.
