Siebert 4534: Rev. Rusk

A short but unusually specific research note connecting an Associate Reformed preacher, Hamilton, West Elkton, and Underground Railroad movement at night.

What the note records

Siebert's note identifies “Rev. Rusk” as an Associate Reformed preacher whose property was in what later became Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. It identifies him as a conductor who saw freedom seekers safely to the Stubbs family at West Elkton and states that he would go through Hamilton at night.

Identity caution: the note does not provide Rev. Rusk's first name. The project has not proven that the man was Balthus/Baltis Rusk. Balthus was a farmer and church elder in an abolitionist Associate Reformed congregation, making him an important lead, but the identities remain separate unless direct evidence connects them.
