Key evidence preserved in the clipping
- January 27, 1853: an additional lot was purchased by trustees John McDaniel, Robert Beckett, and John Woods.
- The 1913 flood damaged the church and the congregation restored it afterward.
- March 12, 1934: fire destroyed almost the entire building; the clipping states that the tower alone was left standing.
- April 5, 1934: the congregation decided to rebuild.
- Plans were submitted by the Antenen Engineering Company.
- November 25, 1934: cornerstone laid.
- June 23, 1935: rebuilt church dedicated.
Date caution: the 1941 congregational history places the larger antebellum building project in 1852, while this clipping and the 1962 history preserve the specific January 27, 1853 transaction. The project keeps that discrepancy visible.
